Brownies? or Brown "E"s? Treat Can Trick

Well this project was about the most difficult one for me thus far as a member of the design team.  Bravo to the gals this week!  I had a hard time coming up with something.

While this isn't my best project, the idea is cool and I have a lesson learned to share!  I appologize for not having all the pictures for the project.  My little one deleted them on my phone so I don't have the inside shots of the can and I didn't have another can.  :(

For this project you are going to need a pull top can and a can opener that removes the lids with a clean edge.  You can use a regular can opener but then you need to deal with the sharp edges.  Use the opener and open the BOTTOM of the can.  Remove the contents and wash and dry the can completely.  After you fill your can, use glossy accents or something similar to reattach your bottom.

This type of project has been around for a while.  The first time I saw it was by my friend Yolanda, yolibean on YouTube.  This can be done for almost any occasion, birthday, Easter, Halloween, etc.

I used the Enjoy the seasons cartridge for my papers and printed out a piece to wrap the can in the polka dot paper.  I used some glossy accents on the smaller circles.  The top and bottom band were cut from a piece of paper I had in my stash.  I edge punched them with a Martha punch.

The label is from the Craft Room Exclusives cartridge and I choose coordinating colors to create my layers.

The top looked too plain so I created a paper flower from tissue, like we used to do as kids.  I only had white so I used some Glimmer Mist on it to give it a bit of zip.  Warning, go easy on the Glimmer Mist.  It is water and the paper thin....they don't like each other much!

I printed and cut several "E"s in both lower and upper case to put in the can and they are colored with pattern and solid color brown, thus making my Brown "E"s (brownies).  If you notice the pink color around the uppercase E, that is from Craft Room.  I don't know why it chooses this color but it is different from cartridge to cartridge and only happens when you use a pattern.  My calibration is pretty good but I still get this border color on my pieces.

I added some shredded tissue paper and a hand written note that states "April Fools".  To assemble this, make sure you place the note in first facing the top or it won't come out first.

Ok so here is the lesson learned....I tried to use tissue paper in my imagine.  Don't try this at home!  My mat isn't super sticky and I did do the print on "DRAFT", however, after it printed it was stuck to my mat!  And I mean stuck!  Fortunately the tissues is thin and doesn't like water, so after 10 minutes of scraping I had the brilliant idea to wash my mat.  It came off but I had thought I ruined my mat.

What a cute idea--I love the play on words! This would be the perfect gag for my grand kiddies--they would get a big kick out of this!

Thank you for sharing! :o)

Well Kris I'm glad I wasn't the only one who struggled with the theme. lol Guess it makes us think outside of the box.

Good project though....like your brown e's!

Kris, I hope you realized that you did not ruin your mat. That is exactly how I clean mine. Warm soapy water. Let it dry and you have a clean sticky mat again! Hope it worked for you. Ciao db:)

Very, very cute idea! You did a great job coming up with this. You ladies are so clever over here. I rarely get to this blog, but now it's going on my "favorites" list to check out every day. You guys are awesome! Came over from Yvonne's blog, but apparently was already following you!

Thanks for the cute trick!
